What makes YouthSong different than other studios?

Many things make YouthSong different than other studios, including:
- YouthSong is wholly committed to the success of each student and to his/her goals;
- Other studios employ a variety of teachers with disparate levels of skill and experience. At YouthSong, Toni and Gaetano Cecere bring 50 years’ + combined experience and far-reaching success in teaching music;
- Toni’s teaching of singing combines science with the art of singing. She has studied voice science and vocal pedagogy. In order to teach singing well, one has to understand all aspects of the vocal mechanism from a physiological point of view and combine that with a holistic approach that includes the bio-psycho-social aspects of study. Not everyone who sings well can teach others to sing well.
- Toni maintains a FULL-TIME voice practice. She is not a performer looking to fill time in between acting jobs. Gaetano is a full-time music educator. Both have had performance careers, but now dedicate themselves to teaching others how to perform.
- The Ceceres take very seriously their responsibility to train aspiring musicians. They are always available and go above and beyond to help students realize their potential. In a supportive and nurturing way, they understand their students and are attuned to what “makes them tick.”
- The YouthSong studio values quality over quantity. We are not in business to fill our programs with as many students as possible. Quality and individualized instruction fosters better learning.
What’s the difference between a voice coach and a voice teacher?
The voice teacher or singing teacher is a vocal “technician” who deals with issues of vocal technique and production. The goals of the voice teacher include establishing a balanced, free, and healthy tone production; developing coordination and vocal stamina; helping the singer to meet the demands of the industry, while maintaining vocal health; building a repertoire that suits the singer; understanding what is appropriate to the age and experience of the singer; helping the singer to understand language, musical, historical, and dramatic elements; and much more. Above all, the voice teacher is someone who has not only had training as a singer, but also has taken voice science and vocal pedagogy courses and has a complete understanding of the vocal mechanism.
The voice coach is the person who deals with the musical, language, and dramatic demands of the vocal repertoire or who trains one specifically for a particular role or audition. Often, they are pianists who have done training in diction, repertoire, and collaborative piano. The goal of the vocal coach is to help the singer “put everything together” to help make the performance better. They expect a singer to arrive with notes learned and an idea about how the song should be presented.
How do I learn about auditions or find an agent or manager?
Toni and Gaetano Cecere have extensive experience in the music business. When the time is right, they will counsel you on all aspects of professional performance, including where to get headshots, finding auditions and/or representation, etc.
